Spanish education at La Mariposa is centered around two main objectives, building grammatical proficiency and conversational fluidity. Teachers use a variety of activities to target all four main language-usage skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Regardless of your current Spanish level, age, interests and motivation for studying Spanish, we can adapt the way these objectives are implemented in lessons to suit your needs!
Grammar curriculum
To ensure students gain a comprehensive understanding of Spanish grammar, this curriculum is generally organized around six levels, from complete beginner to advanced.
Conversation curriculum
To enhance your ability to confidently engage in conversation with Spanish speakers, practice is essential. This area of our curriculum is very flexible, covering general topics to ensure sound vocabulary acquisition and grammar usage. Teachers are happy to include any particular topics preferred by individual students. Popular subjects include family, cultural practices, food, hobbies, movies, articles, sports, etc.
Our library of Spanish language resources
We maintain a bountiful collection of resources appropriate for every type of student. There are many grammar books, practical usage manuals, travel guides, picture/regular dictionaries, flashcards and games. Spanish reading materials for all levels and interests include children’s books, short story collections, novels, nonfiction, news and articles. Plenty of original worksheets, developed by La Mariposa staff, are frequently given out for homework. Materials are also available online for Skype Classes. Teachers use their discretion in choosing the appropriate selection of materials and activities for each student. Please communicate with your teacher to adjust what kinds of exercises are emphasized during your lessons or for homework.
La Mariposa Spanish Workbooks
In 2015, several committed La Mariposa teachers began producing original Spanish workbooks with the goal of providing students with comprehensive resources to learn and practice Spanish grammar, both in and outside of class. The curriculum of each volume was drawn from a variety of reference materials, including favored grammar books, internet resources, and a good dose of the cultures of the Mariposa organization and Nicaragua. We currently publish Levels 1, 2, and 3, appropriate for the the complete beginner to intermediate learner. Our ultimate goal is to produce Levels 4, 5, and 6, for intermediate to advanced students.

- A structured approach to learning the main components of the Spanish language
- A wealth of practice exercises, available nowhere else, with answer sections to check your work
