Integrated Children’s projects

Home » Our Projects » Integrated Children’s projects

In 2019 we decided to reorganise the children’s projects in order to offer a more integrated approach with the following mission:

  • To ensure that, whatever their abilities, all children in our projects have access to the same resources
  • Wherever possible, children of different abilities work together instead of being separated into ‘specialist’ projects for differently abled children – we hope, for example, to raise funds to build a basket ball pitch which would be suitable for children of all ages and abilities, including wheelchair users
  • All of the children attending the project will have more access to nature, education on environmental issues including organic gardening and the care of animals.
  • Establishing a library where books will be available for ALL children to borrow and use with their families

Coming changes:

As of May 2019 ALL of the children’s projects will be based in La Reserva, using the currently empty cabins and the Chispa de Vida buildings. It has presented problems managing projects in far flung barrios and combining them will also ensure the best possible use of scarce resources, including time and energy of the project workers.

The sessions will be more tightly organised than was previously the case and children will come in from the poorest barrios – we will provide transport where neccessary.

We will be offering the following classes in La Reserva and would appreciate volunteer help with all of these options! We will employ teaching methods which are effective but also enriching, active, fun and creative! These photos illustrate the approach we take and the kinds of things that we offer kids. We are always open to new ideas, and will be adding other options to the list of possibilities as we progress

  • English classes for beginners
  • Classes in reading and writing
  • Creative art, especially focusing on using recycled materials
  • Dance especially focusing on folklore
  • Sport (this may require at times going out of the Reserva)
  • Environmental education and learning an appreciation of nature through being in La Reserva
  • A lending library so that kids can take books home
  • Occupational classes such as learning to make pinatas
