Learn + Support Good Causes: Taking classes with La Mariposa Spanish School directly supports environmental and community projects that change lives. We are a non-profit organization that funds initiatives including children’s programs, therapy for differently abled children, animal rescue, and environmental stewardship.
Highly Qualified Teachers: Our teachers are all from the local community, well-trained by La Mariposa and have plenty of experience. La Mariposa requires all instructors to complete an intensive training course and continuing professional development. Several have at least basic knowledge of English, and some are fluent, which is be helpful for complete beginners.
1:1 Instruction + Customized Curriculum: Lesson plans are always tailored to suit each student’s current level of proficiency, motivation for learning Spanish, and particular areas of interest.
Spanish for Children: Some teachers specialize in working with children and now have experience using skype classes with even young children. They have successfully taught many youngsters by using interactive activities to make learning fun, including games, songs, and storytelling, though more formal lessons can be arranged. Teachers always consult with children and their parents to determine the best approach.
Spanish for Professionals: We have educated numerous professionals seeking to interact more effectively with Spanish speakers in their work environments. Lessons can focused on vocabulary and phrases specific to almost any career, including medicine, nursing, social services, education, business, law, engineering, agriculture, veterinary medicine, environmental sciences, and more.
We specialize in Latin American and Nicaraguan Spanish & Culture: We can help you with pronunciation, common usage, and colloquial phrases. At your request, practice Spanish while learning all about Nicaraguan history, traditions, celebrations, literature, folklore, food, music, and more.
Continue Your Studies in Person: If you would like to visit us in Nicaragua, we can accommodate your stay – you can even bring your family, or a group! You may be able to keep studying with your same teacher in person, as well as explore the country with our unique excursions or volunteer with one of our projects!

What to expect when taking Skype classes:
- Classes are offered by the hour, and you can sign up for more than one hour at a time.
- Our teaching methods are centered around accomplishing two main objectives: building a fundamental understanding of grammar structures, and enhancing your level of comfort and comprehension when engaging in conversation.
- We recommend homework assignments after each lesson for additional practice!
- Remember to communicate with your teacher! If you want to learn more about a specific topic, practice with a particular activity more often, or spend more or less time reviewing the correct usage of a tricky piece of grammar, just say so! Customizing lessons to suit you is important to us.

How to begin Skype lessons with us:
STEP 1 – Prepare
Make sure you have all the necessary supplies (See section above.)
STEP 2 – Contact us
Email Tamar at lamariposaspanishschool06@gmail.com with the following information:
- Your current Spanish level: beginner, intermediate, advanced (your teacher will further evaluate your proficiency).
- What time* and how often you would like to take lessons (for example, 10 – 11 am Nica Time, Mondays & Fridays). Classes are available from 8 – 5 every day, but please note that not all of our teachers are available every day.
- Age of student, if under 18 years old.
- Main reason for taking classes (for example, professional desiring workplace-specific Spanish, backpacker desiring basic travel Spanish, student needing a tutor for university class, etc. ).
*Remember when requesting class times, we use Nica Time (Central Standard) Please note: Nicaragua does NOT observe daylight savings time! Be especially careful to double check the time difference if you live in a country where the you gain or lose an hour every spring and fall.
