Wild Animal Rescue & Release

Over the years many wild animals and birds have been brought to us, mostly by people who have rescued them from being hunted or harassed by kids with catapults. We have no intention of keeping a zoo and our policy is to release whenever possible. All of the animals are checked by a vet before being released and, in some cases, kept for a few days to be given adequate food. Many of the animals have been liberated either on our own lands, especially Canada Honda, or in local nature reserves. Released animals included those pictured below, as well as over 200 parakeets, possums, raccoons, and a roadside hawk (set free some 6 years ago and who still flies above La Mariposa with his family, I am convinced!) Many people are scared of snakes and I am particularly grateful to local people who do not kill (completely harmless) boas and bring them to us to rerelease instead.
